  • Kirsty is a Lecturer in the medical school at University of Glasgow. She is passionate about reproductive and women’s health, and engaging members of the public with science. Kirsty loves to spend her time outside preferably up a hill or by the sea.

  • Mike is a Postdoc at The University of Edinburgh working to understand the role of inflammation in dementia.  He is passionate about science communication (sometimes with a taste for the dramatic) and, outside the lab, he devotes most of his time to climbing/ running/hiking/cycling up things.

  • Jason is a PhD student working with 3D imaging to understand how our skin repairs itself with immune cells. When he’s not in the lab you’ll find him – running, taking photos, trying to make science more accessible for under-represented students as a WP Fellow or enjoying a dram of whisky.

  • Maddy is a PhD student at the University of Manchester researching the role of the immune system and the gut-brain axis in stroke. She thinks science communication is key to better research. When she’s not in the lab, you’ll find her watching live music and taking every opportunity to travel!

  • Katie is a PhD student researching the protein secretory pathway, aka how proteins know where they are going and how they get there. Outside of the lab she loves to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors or enjoying a glass of wine (or 4).

  • Luke is a PhD student, and works in imaging science. He uses AI to look at x-ray scans and find people who might be at high risk of heart disease. Luke also enjoys doing comedy. He finds stand-up is a fun way to spread science, but does some less scientific comedy plays and sketch shows too.

  • Jack is a final year PhD student researching (and taking time to) sleep. He also has an alter ego who stands up for evidence in science reporting. In his spare time he trawls live music venues, hops between all things arts related and once even sat through a Kim Kardashian / Mozart themed opera.

  • Julieta is a PhD student at The University of Manchester studying NF1 causing Autism by using brain organoids made from patient derived blood cells. Julieta loves yoga, cooking and watching cute puppy videos online!

  • Katie is a Postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University in California, studying how white blood cells called Natural Killer cells fight infections. She also enjoys baking, running and finding  new ways to share science with a wider audience, from song writing to stand-up comedy.

  • Donna is Researcher at the University of Manchester examining the role of health services in preventing self-harm and suicide. She has a long list of things she loves, but top of her loathe list is when research is misrepresented to sell papers, a product, a service or a policy.

  • Aidan is a Postdoctoral researcher working in Materials Science at Aalto University, Finland. He is interested in how Graphene bends and sticks to other materials. When not watching atoms hop around under a microscope, he is probably running or camping in a wood somewhere.
